Issue Date: May 2024

Qualification -
Unit of Competency MSFID5022 - Explore and apply creative design methodology to interior space
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply the elements and principles of design to manipulate three dimensional (3D) interior space and form in response to a design brief. It involves the observation and analysis of a range of complex spatial typologies and a process of exploration and refinement to develop a design solution. This unit applies to individuals who design any type of interior space. No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Evaluate interior spaces
  • Observe and evaluate existing spatial relationships of objects against the design brief
  • Observe and compare existing spatial typologies against the design brief
  • Observe and evaluate existing spatial arrangements and organising systems against the design brief.

Element: Manipulate 3D space and form
  • Use the elements and principles of design to organise elements in 3D interior space based on the requirements of the brief
  • Manipulate 3D space using principles related to colour, texture and light
  • Explore spatial arrangements to satisfy brief requirements
  • Explore scale, volume and proportion for 3D space and form to satisfy brief requirements

Element: Resolve interior design problems
  • Resolve interior space and interrelated design issues through the application of the elements and principles of design
  • Evaluate design solution and further refine to satisfy brief requirements
  • Communicate interior design solution using media that best suits the solution
  • Explore and qualify feasibility of solution
  • Review design solution and processes used to assess own skill and identify areas for improvement or modification

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
